No surprise to see chicken rice, nasi lemak, and prata at the top. But I'm surprised to see fishball soup so high. Also surprised that cheng tng and frog porridge so low.

Your thoughts?
Is this a printer? No, it's an oven that costs US$1,295 for the basic set.
If you want extras like the muffin tray or egg tray, you have to pay US$200 extra.

Okay so why is it so expensive? The company claims it's because of the unique technology that allows you to cook with light. You just need to select your food type on the touchscreen and the oven's computer will automatically select the cooking duration and the types of light to turn on to make sure your food turns out perfect.

But...that also means it's difficult to cook anything that's not in the listed food type.

Oh you need to check the progress of your food cooking? Sorry, there's no glass display. You'll need to use an app on your phone to look at your food through the oven's internal camera.

So pointless.

I saw a video on Youtube about this fruit seller in Japan who decided to start selling fruit sandwiches. He uses a lot of cream and sliced fruits to make these beautiful sandwiches!

They are quite pricey at around 1000 yen (I think) but looking at the amount of work that goes into each sandwich...maybe worth it?

I know it's a weird thread title but let me explain what I mean.

My best friend and I wanted to open a cafe so we were doing research on the kind of food other cafes or restaurants serve. In the process, we found so many ridiculous food items that were obviously made for attention but not for the convenience of the person actually eating them.

COVID hit and we had to postpone our plans for a cafe. However, my collection of terrible cafe food items remains on my laptop and I wish to share them with you.

Cafe owner: Eh you know ah, broccoli feels too healthy. That's why not many people order. We have to make it look less healthy.
Cafe chef: I can deep fry la. Then add a lot of salt and sauce.
Cafe owner: No no no not unhealthy enough. It should actively harm the diners.
Cafe chef: Okay I got idea.

Owner: Eh bro as you know ah, we are a restaurant that overcharges customers by 800%. But how can we make them feel like every bit of their dining experience is worth the price?
Chef: Okay I got idea.

Years and years ago, us Westies could depend on the famous stall in Boon Lay Place Village Village for one of the best plates of nasi lemak in Singapore.

However, things seemed to change when Power Nasi Lemak started to become commercialised, with outlets opening all around Singapore and even in Changi Airport.

The chicken no longer stayed crispy, the egg yolk no longer runny, and the rice became clumpy. Luckily, the sambal more or less remained the same.

They're an amazing business story, but too bad for us food lovers in the west, the overall quality dropped.

Still, many good memories remain. I wish them all the best.

Haven't been able to travel...so I've been watching a lot of travel and food videos on Youtube recently.

I recently watched this video and the Italian pastry she eats at 1:30 looks so damn good! It's like a super crispy and flaky croissant with ricotta cheese inside.

I also like Mark Wiens' channel because he travels to so many places and tries so many different kinds of food, but sometimes he overacts quite a bit. Like too positive haha.

Got any other channels to recommend? Share share.
