Years and years ago, us Westies could depend on the famous stall in Boon Lay Place Village Village for one of the best plates of nasi lemak in Singapore.
However, things seemed to change when Power Nasi Lemak started to become commercialised, with outlets opening all around Singapore and even in Changi Airport.
The chicken no longer stayed crispy, the egg yolk no longer runny, and the rice became clumpy. Luckily, the sambal more or less remained the same.
They're an amazing business story, but too bad for us food lovers in the west, the overall quality dropped.
Still, many good memories remain. I wish them all the best.

i tried the airport one before i went overseas for a long holiday. haha totally cannot make it. totally different from the boon lay market one even though same brand name.

I used to dabao power nasi lemak when guests came over from other parts of Singapore, but I have no idea their standard dropped so drastically. My guests used to love the perfectly fried egg and crunchy chicken so it's a little sad to know all that is gone.

hmm i prolly wouldn't call it the best in sg...even when it was at its peak years and years ago, but it was definitely a very satisfying serving of nasi lemak

Just looking at the pic, I can imagine how nicely the sambal mixes with the rice. Tempted to buy a pack this weekend.
I'm also tempted...until I remember one serving of nasi lemak is around 700 calories.  Probably even more for power nasi lemak.

Lol I just had this recently. You're right...it's quite average now. Sambal is still good so that really helped.
