Funny thing is that it was allowed to be spontaneous by a minister. So it's actually very singaporean.

I can imagine this tasting heavenly if the bread is somehow fried crispy but still light and not oily.

Yup the bread texture is key. From the video, looks like they achieved the crispy but still light and fluffy texture.
