Posted by: arthur - 28-06-2022, 11:01 PM - Forum: Meet Up - No Replies

My friend's mother is moving out of Singapore soon and she has a huge collection of high-end fashion and household items for sale.

A small sample of the items:

Swarovski necklace

Click here to visit her carousell page to look through all the items. Too much stuff, especially branded fashion items, for me to list here.

If you're interested, please contact her directly through her carousell page.

Self-collection at Holland V MRT station for the smaller items.

First confirmed case of monkeypox in Singapore
Posted by: ScornfulScone - 22-06-2022, 03:51 PM - Forum: Chit Chat - Replies (1)

Hope we can contain it this time. -_-

Quote:The patient is a 42-year-old British man who works as a flight attendant. MOH said that he was in Singapore between June 15 and 17, and again on June 19 as he flew in and out of Singapore.

He tested positive for monkeypox on June 20.

He is now warded in at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) and his condition is stable. Contact tracing is ongoing, MOH said.

MOH also added, "In general, the risk of transmission to visitors at these locations is low, as data has shown that monkeypox transmits through close physical or prolonged contact. All four locations visited by the case are undergoing cleaning and disinfection."

Malaysia to stop exporting 3.6 million chickens a month
Posted by: NewtonsAdamsApple - 23-05-2022, 10:03 PM - Forum: Chit Chat - Replies (1)

This will mean increased food prices for at least one month here in Singapore.

Quote:KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia will stop the export of 3.6 million whole chickens a month until production and prices stabilise, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said on Monday (May 23).

This will start on June 1.

[...]

The moves come as the country faces a shortage of chickens along with soaring prices.

[...]

Singapore imports more than a third of its chicken supply from Malaysia. Chicken is the most widely consumed meat in Singapore, with a per capita consumption of 36kg in 2020, according to data from the Singapore Food Agency.

[...]

Poultry farmers have warned the government that sustained low ceiling prices for chicken and eggs would hurt the industry in the long run.

They said they are struggling amid the skyrocketing cost of feed due to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, which has throttled grain supplies from both countries.
Russia is also a major producer of fertiliser that is needed to grow the grain.

Heads up! Resurfacing our corridors' floor; get ready to clear corridor
Posted by: DennisTheMenace - 04-05-2022, 01:22 PM - Forum: Notice Board - Replies (1)

Hi all, I live in the block 662 area.

One of the workers informed me today that I will need to move my potted plants so they can start work on resurfacing the floor in my corridor.

If your corridor floor hasn't been resurfaced yet, you may want to inform your family members and your immediate neighbours of the upcoming work, as it may take some time and effort to move all the potted plants or other objects away from your corridor.

I chose to move my potted plants to the lift area, which has already been resurfaced. But if the lift area is too congested, you may have to move some objects into your own home.

Just a heads up, hopefully this post will help ease some of the inconvenience.

Jurong West ice cream uncle and his principle of making an honest living
Posted by: k.ng - 28-04-2022, 02:02 PM - Forum: Chit Chat - Replies (4)

Nice little story from mothership.

Quote:One Jeremy Goh posted to Facebook an encounter with an ice cream uncle at Jurong West.

Goh shared that the ice cream he bought cost S$1.20. After paying, he asked the uncle to keep the extra change.

The uncle, however, refused to accept the change, and according to Goh, even chased after him to return the money.

The uncle apparently said that this was his "principle" to making an honest living.

Instead of paying him extra, the uncle would rather Goh patronise his cart more.

According to Goh, the uncle typically stations himself around Blk 674 Jurong West St 65 or outside Boon Lay Secondary School, everyday from 2pm to 10pm.

From https://mothership.sg/2020/03/jurong-ice...no-change/ (Mar 2020)

So if you see our local ice cream uncle around and you're in the mood for a dessert, buy some ice cream from him. Smile

Middle-class family in Shanghai dealing with lockdown (Chinese video)
Posted by: Limfamily - 17-04-2022, 11:23 AM - Forum: Chit Chat - Replies (3)

Some key points that I noted:

  • This family has to rely on some kind of group buy programme with other residents in the same building for food
  • The food is delivered to their doorstep by volunteers since it's very inconvenient to leave home
  • Looks like the residents take turns becoming volunteers to deliver food
  • Regular online shopping is impossible since everything is sold out
  • Price of one head of Chinese cabbage is roughly SGD21 (!!!)

Not trying to scare anyone or anything...but we shouldn't take things for granted yah.

Has anyone grown their own ecosphere or terrarium here?
Posted by: MooMooBird - 24-03-2022, 05:57 PM - Forum: Pets, Animals, and Plants - Replies (9)

I've been looking at ecospheres/terrarium videos quite a bit recently because they're relaxing and just so interesting to watch. Just wondering if any of you have built or grown your own?

This video shows an ecosphere that seems easy to set up. Just grab some seawater and plants and hope something grows. I guess the guy was lucky enough to catch a baby crab which grew quite big.

And then you have the more pro guys who can build mini forests with mist. Amazing.

Just wondering if there are any here in Jurong West. Can share more pics and vids if you don't mind. Big Smile
